Position Duties: This is an entry to senior level position that will provide full-time Geographic Information System (GIS) technical support and science-based support to meet the diverse needs of the company. We expect the Scientist/GIS Analyst to quickly learn and grow, becoming familiar GIS processes, document management, regulatory compliance, and applicable field investigations to meet project needs. As a Scientist/Fisheries Scientist, you will have opportunities to work across Alaska with a variety of fish species and aquatic ecosystems on projects ranging from oil and gas, mining, and transportation to governmental fisheries baseline data collection projects. Qualifications and Experience:Qualified candidates will possess an M.S. or Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology, Marine Ecology, or other related environmental sciences, a minimum of 8 years direct experience in environmental permitting and/or wildlife monitoring and surveying, and a willingness to tackle tasks outside their core expertise.
Skills and Responsibilities: The primary job responsibilities include:
- preparing documents relevant to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental impact assessments
- preparing Incidental Harassment Authorization (IHA) applications in compliance with the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA)
- Section 7 consultation support, including preparation of Biological Assessments (BA), in compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA)
- preparing and implementing wildlife and marine mammal monitoring plans
Understanding the regulatory framework of NEPA, MMPA, and ESA is essential.
Secondary responsibilities include conducting field work such as marine mammal monitoring, wildlife surveys, and fish surveys, often at remote locations.
